LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday sought the report on Additional Sessions Judge Rafaqat Ali Gondal, who withheld the decision on bail pleas of two main suspects during which they fled, in the fake police encounter case of a young man named Mudassar Ali in Kasur.
As the two-member bench headed by the chief justice resumed the hearing, head of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) investigating the allegations Abu Bakr Khuda Baksh presented his report before the court.
The report stated that bail pleas of Inspector Tariq Bashir Cheema and Inspector Arif were dismissed but they fled as the sessions judge held the verdict for three hours. Upon this, the chief justice ordered to find out the judge who withheld the decision.
In February 2017, four-year-old Iman Fatima was raped and killed in Kasur. The police pinned the crime on Muddasar Ali, and with ‘speedy justice’ of Punjab police, the case was closed after killing of Mudassar Ali.
The police termed it a success amid a plethora of child abuse and pornography cases that put Kasur in the limelight.
The investigation findings in Zainab’s murder case, however, contradicts many facts registered in FIR of Iman Fatima case. FIR No 189/2017 states that Mudassir was killed in crossfire between gang members on February 23. The police officials found him alongside motorbike and a gun when they arrived at the scene.
The FIR further claims that Mudassir had been shot before the arrival of the police, but still, somehow they managed to get him to confess to the rape and murder of the minor.
