NA-131 will be a new constituency of Lahore

LAHORE: NA-131, with a total population of 772182, would be the new constituency of National Assembly (NA) from Lahore, the documents available with Pakistan Today revealed. The new constituency would cover the areas of R A Bazar, Nishat Colony, Cavalry, Walton, Defence, Kamahan, Bedian Road, Airport, Bhatta Chowk and Chungi Amar Sadhu. The preliminary list of delimitation was issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in the aftermath of the 6th population census conducted in the country in which the share of Punjab was decreased by 7 seats but one seat was added in the share of Lahore as the NA constituencies from the metropolitan increased to 14 from its old share of 13.

According to the last delimitation, the constituencies of NA in Lahore started from NA-118 and ended at NA-130 but now the constituencies of Lahore would start from NA 123 and end at NA-136. The documents revealed that NA-123, with a population of 792786, would cover the areas of Shahdara, Saggian Bridge, Timber Market, Sabzi Mandi, Band Road, Begum Kot, Ravi Road and Farukh Abad. Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Malik Muhammad Riaz won the election from this constituency in 2013 when it used to be NA-118.

Badami Bagh, Walled City, Misri Shah, Railway Station, Qila Gujjar Singh, Lakshmi Chowk, Gawalmandi, Sheranwala Gate, Lohari Gate and Rang Mehal had been declared as areas of the newly formed NA-124, with a total population of 801410. It used to be NA-119 in the last delimitation and Hamza Shehbaz Sharif won from there in the last general elections. The newly formed NA-125 would be consisting of Rivaz Garden, Islampura, Santnagar, Sanda, Mohni Road, Mozang, Ganga Ram Hospital and GOR I. The total population of NA-125 would be 786096. It was NA-120 in the last delimitations and PML-N Supreme Leader and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif won from there in 2013 before being disqualified on the orders of the Supreme Court (SC) last year.

Samanabad, Shera Kot, Nawan Kot, Babu Sabu, Yateem Khana, Chauburji, Sabzazar, Gulshan-e-Ravi and GOR II would constitute the newly formed NA-126 which would have a total population of 805070. Mehar Ishtiaq of PML-N won from there in 2013 when it was called as NA-121. The newly formed NA-127 would have the areas of Baghbanpura, Kot Khawaja Saeed, China Scheme, Mehmood Booti, UET, Pakistan Mint, Singh Pura and Baja Line with total a population of 819049. Federal Minister for Commerce and Trade Malik Pervaiz won the election from this constituency in 2013 on the ticket of PML-N when it used to be NA-123. The areas of Lakhu Dher, Daroghawala, Fateh Garh, Karol Village and Manawan would constitute NA-128 with a total population of 766549. Sheikh Rohale Asghar of PML-N won the election from this constituency when it was NA-124 in the last delimitations.

Mayo Garden, Mian Meer Village, Mughalpura, Shami Road, Taj Bagh, Sadar Cant, Ghaziabad, Garhi Shahu, Dharampura, Harbanspura, and Askari I, IX and X would constitute newly formed NA-129 and it would have a total population of 762811. This constituency was earlier called as NA-125 and it was won by Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique in 2013. Gulberg, Model Town, Garden Town, Iqbal Town, Wahdat Road, Ichra, Shadman, Firdos Market, Kalma Chowk, Askari V and Model Town Extension would constitute NA-130 with a total population of 818078. The constituency was earlier called NA-126 and it was the only NA seat won by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in 2013 from Lahore as Shafqat Mehmood of PTI is the sitting MNA from there. The newly formed NA-132 would consist of Barki Hadyara, DHA phase 8, Kahna, Gajumatta and Bhatta Chowk with a total population of 788786. It was earlier called as NA-130 and Sohail Shaukat Butt of PML-N is the sitting MNA from there.

Kot Lakhpat, Maulana Shaukat Ali Road, Green Town, Wafaqi Colony, Qainchi, Township, Johar Town, and Bagariyan would fall in the newly formed NA-133 with a population of 798185. It was NA-127 in the last delimitation and Waheed Alam Khan of PML-N won from there in 2013. The NA-134 would consist of Kahna Nau, Kacha Jail Road, Valencia Town and Muhammad Ali Colony while it would have a total population of 804774. It was NA-129 in the old delimitation and Shazia Mubashar of PML-N was the sitting MNA from the constituency.

The old NA-128 had been divided in two constituencies, NA-135 and NA-136. Malik Afzal Khokhar of PML-N won from NA-128 in 2013. The NA-135 would now cover Thokhar Niaz Beg, Awan Town, Hanjarwal, Marghazar Colony, Mustafa Abad and Kharak with a population of 815592. Similarly, NA-136 would cover Chohng, Manga Mandi, Raiwind, Mohlanwal and Azmir Town while the constituency would have a population of 794917.

Talking to Pakistan Today, Huda Ali Gohar, the spokesperson to Punjab election commissioner said that the hearing on the reservations over the new delimitation had been started and the hearing of Lahore constituencies would be held on April 18.

“The final list of delimitations will be displayed on May 4-5 after completing the process and the total constituencies of NA from Lahore will remain the same but it is likely that maps of some constituencies will be changed slightly after hearing the reservations of the candidates,” she said.
