PIDA decides to amend irrigation management transfer agreement

LAHORE: The Punjab Irrigation and Drainage Authority (PIDA) decided to amend the irrigation management transfer agreement to improve efficiency and transparency in irrigation service delivery.

This decision was made in the light of experiences gained over time so that farmer organisations could perform their functions effectively.

PIDA General Manager Muhammad Aslam Tabassum chaired the meeting in this regard on Thursday. PIDA Legal Advisor Ghazanfar Haider Pasha briefed the participants about the proposed amendments to the draft agreement of irrigation management transfer agreement.

Addressing the meeting, the general manager said that irrigation engineers would perform their duties in collaboration with farmer organisations and the programme would be provided legal cover. The amended irrigation management transfer agreement would be enforced after the formation of new farmer organisations, he added.

He further said that an effective legislation was essential for a smooth development process.
