NAB takes notice of illegal appointments in KP Ehtesab Commission

ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) took notice of the illegal appointments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Ehtesab Commission, according to a notification issued on Thursday.

In response to a media report, NAB Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal ordered an inquiry of the alleged illegal appointments in KP Ehtesab Commission (KPEC).

The NAB chief directed KP NAB DG to verify the complaint and check authenticity of the news item. The provincial NAB DG will submit a report on the matter.

NAB chief also ordered complaint verification against National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) for illegally doling out loans to various companies.

According to the news item, allegations were levelled by one of the commissioners of the KPEC against a provincial cabinet minister and a key official of the commission regarding illegal appointments and other wrongdoings. In this regard, Transparency International-Pakistan (TI) had also urged the NAB chairman to take notice and order an inquiry.

It was revealed that Syeda Sarwat Jehan, a KPEC commissioner, had disclosed the irregularities, illegal appointments, concealment of facts and misuse of power within the commission.
