–PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari says Nawaz Sharif used military establishment to topple PPP governments in past, vows to snatch Punjab from PML-N like Senate
–Says party will form alliance with other parties to outwit PML-N in general polls
–Bilawal says PPP won’t let ‘successors’ of Ziaul Haq come into power again
GARHI KHUDA BUX: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari said on Wednesday that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif won ‘RO elections’ and declared that his party will remain at war with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
He alleged that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo had always disrupted the PPP governments with the support of the establishment.
The former president said that no matter what happened, we (PPP) would remain at war with PML-N.
“I won’t even let you have your own chief minister in Punjab in the next polls,” Zardari declared. “We would form the next government in alliance with other parties,” he added. He also alleged that the government spent millions to win a seat from Lahore.
“In every era, a Bhutto has given sacrifices for strengthening democracy in the country. First, it was Shahnawaz, then Murtaza and then Benazir,” he said.
Addressing the rally before his father, party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said that late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was the first person to stand for democracy in Pakistan and added the Simla Agreement and developing consensus on the constitution was an achievement of late Bhutto.
“Today every Pakistani has the right to vote, which is a gift of late Zulfiqar Bhutto to the people of Pakistan,” he said. “The political system that we see today has come into existence on the back of sacrifices laid down by the martyrs of PPP. Therefore, we would not let this system to be derailed in any way.”
Bilawal said that the people of Pakistan should make a choice whether to support the legacy of late dictator General Ziaul Haq or Zulfiqar Bhutto.
“There is also a third option for the people of the country in the form of the U-turn politician who is very close to the Taliban,” he said while taking a jibe at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.
He said, “We would not let the B team of religious extremists come into power in the country.”
“Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has inaugurated only one hospital during his tenure, while the PPP opened 517 health facility centres,” he claimed.
The PPP leader said that people were not concerned with the ‘Mujhay Kyun Nikala’ (why I was ousted) slogan of deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif but were more concerned with the redressal of their basic issues.
He said it was no less than a joke with the entire nation that a person who had never respected the sanctity of the vote was now calling for restoring the power of the vote in the country.
“PPP has never received justice from the courts, but did we wage a war against it? We do raise our voice against injustices but that does not mean that we do not respect state institutions. For instance, we still demand justice for the judicial murder of Zulfiqar Bhutto,” he said.
It is important to mention here that caravans of Bhutto supporters have reached Larkana from across the country ahead of the death anniversary of the party’s founder.
The PPP had set up two camps, one in Larkana and the other in Garhi Khuda Baksh, in order to facilitate party workers.
Senior party leaders, including Khurshid Shah, Sherry Rehman and Qamar Zaman Kaira, were also present in the rally ground to address participants on Bhutto’s death anniversary.
