LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Wednesday held candle vigil and orgainsed special prayers to observe the 39th death anniversary of the party’s founding chairman and former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in Lahore.
The candle vigil was held at Chairing Cross (Faisal Chowk) where a large number of party workers and leaders participated. The vigil was also attended by a number of civil society activists. The participants carried placards inscribed with slogans in favour of Bhutto and PPP.
Special prayers were held at central secretariat in Model Town. PPP caravans from Punjab also participated in the central ceremony in Larkana where PPP Chairman Bilwal Bhutto addressed the ceremony.
The Sindh government declared April 4 as a public holiday across the province on account of Bhutto’s 39th death anniversary. The announcement was made in a statement on Monday.
