ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday rejected the petition of the Punjab government against regularisation of work-charge employees.

This was decided by a three-member bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar.

During the proceeding, Punjab government’s lawyer Asma Hamid said that the recruitment of employees in 2012 are illegal, to which the CJP asked who passed the orders of this recruitment.

The lawyer replied, “This was done on chief minister’s orders. The government is declaring its own CM’s recruitment illegal. Why isn’t a notice issued to Shehbaz Sharif?”

“If a notice is issued he has to appear before the court and he is very fond of that. Recruiting in government departments on the basis of work-charge is fraud,” remarked the CJP.

On the other hand, the SC dismissed pleas pertaining to 19th amendment, former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and restoration of article 258-B over being ineffective.

The CJP maintained that the court has already declared its verdict on 18th and 19th amendment. Shahid Orakzai’s plea against Gilani was disposed of in which he had challenged the actions of the former PM after disqualification.
