ISLAMABAD: An earthquake of high intensity jolted the federal capital and districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Friday-Saturday midnight but no causalities or property damages were reported.
According to the geological wing of PMD (Pakistan Meteorological Department), tremors measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale were felt in Islamabad, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swat, Mingora, Chitral, Mardan, Malakand, Kohistan and various other surrounding areas. People of the areas were asleep at the time but woke up and vacated their homes in panic.
The epicentre of the quake was stated to be in the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border area, 230 kilometres beneath the earth’s crust.
