LAHORE: Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Fawad Hassan Fawad and Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique on Thursday appeared before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in two different inquiries.

The anti-graft watchdog had summoned Fawad to question him in the Ashiana Housing Scheme scam. Fawad allegedly played a role in facilitating the grant of contract to the accused company.

NAB found irregularities and corruption worth billions of rupees in the deal between Punjab Land Development Company (PLDC) and Paragon Housing Society to develop Ashiana Housing Scheme, a low-cost housing scheme by the Punjab government.

Meanwhile, Punjab Minister for Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Khawaja Salman Rafique, brother of Federal Railway Minister Saad Rafique, was summoned for an inquiry into Paragon Housing Society.

Rafique was interrogated for over an hour, the sources said.

On Wednesday, Saad Rafique appeared before NAB in an investigation pertaining to housing scam.

Commenting on his appearance before the accountability watchdog, Saad Rafique remarked that the slogan for accountability has been chanted for a different purpose.

He stated that he answered all of NAB’s questions and that his stance on NAB has been the same since the first day.

He said  Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PNL-N) government had worked selflessly for the country’s benefit, some forces were still engaged in efforts to defame politicians.

“We have worked selflessly for the country’s benefit, however, some forces are engaging in efforts to malign politicians,” he stated.
