Police record to be streamlined

KARACHI: Sindh police department is fast in the process to amalgamate its criminal record system (CRS) with the criminal record office (CRO) so as to streamline and keep particularly updated details of the offenders, convicts and jail inmates.

A meeting in this regard was chaired by Sindh Inspector General of Police

AD Khawaja on Thursday to review the pace of work cited as a major development to keep track of criminals and contain crime rate in the province.

The meeting was also attended by Additional IG-Karachi, Sindh Jails IG, DIG Headquarters, DIG IT/TNT, Director IT, Zonal DIGS of Karachi and their counterparts belonging to other ranges of the province among others.

Jails IG informed the meeting participants that the special rooms for CROs were established in the prisons scattered across the province that was in the process of becoming adequately equipped.

IT Director said that the available information of 257,702 criminals had already been computerised under the CRO while details of another 62,881 were materialised under CRS.

The computerised records were said to pertain details available at the police stations, SSP offices and CIA offices functional across Sindh.

The official said that software of the criminal records of jails and police stations of the province would be the same and it would also be available online.

The meeting was further informed that along with Sindh Police, the criminal record data compiled by Punjab Police, at varying levels, was also in the process of merger.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was said to be signed soon between the chiefs of the two provincial police departments so that the process of keeping track and to nab the criminals could be facilitated.

With the signing of the said MoU, the available data of Sindh comprising details of 257,702 criminals and 1,000,000 that of Punjab would be coordinated and available online paving the way to keep track of the suspected elements.
