Fresh milk to be sold at Rs 94 per litre from April 1

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has fixed the price of fresh milk at Rs 94 per litre, however the new rate will be applicable from April 1.

According to the two-judge bench comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Ashraf Jahan, fresh milk would be sold at Rs 85 per liter till the new price takes effect.

Earlier, a meeting of milk wholesale dealers and retailers chaired by the Karachi commissioner agreed on fixing the price of milk at Rs 94 per litre.

However, the court ordered to apply the new price after the start of next month.

During the hearing, Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi said the new prices cannot be immediately implemented as concerns of people with low-incomes cannot be ignored.

After a dispute between retailers and wholesale dealers, the price of milk shot to Rs 100 from Rs 85. Amid the dispute, the retailers stated that they are forced to sell milk at Rs 85 after buying it at Rs 95 per litre from the wholesale dealers.
