Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has issued a statement after a meeting of its central leaders, presided over by Imran Khan, saying that dubious efforts were being made to send Nawaz Sharif abroad, adding that the party would not accept any National Reconciliation Order (NRO) to allow the deposed premier and his family to fly abroad without first facing accountability.

The statement said: “We cannot accept anything less than the uniform and free implementation of the law.” It further added: “The process of accountability needs to be completed at the earliest by treating the former premier like a common citizen in the court of law.”

The PTI meeting also decided to form an “economic media committee” under the chairmanship of PTI leader Asad Umar. The committee would also include Senator Shibli Faraz and Umar Ayub Khan.

The committee was formed with the aim to record and analyse the contradictory narratives provided by the incumbent government and Ishaq Dar in connection with the state of the national economy. Further, it would launch information drives to educate the public about the PML-N’s “economic misdeeds”.

Meanwhile, PTI leader Fauzia Kasuri on Tuesday showed concern about her party’s politics and expressed fear that its future may be under serious threat.

In an opinion piece for a newspaper, Kasuri, one of the central figures of Imran Khan-led PTI, said the party had strayed away from its revolutionary vision and the ideals on which it was originally built. It is instead headed in a direction totally opposite to what it initially set out to achieve, she added.

PTI was facing a more serious threat to its esteem as compared to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) because its future was linked with the destiny of one man, she lamented.

She pointed out that the PPP and PML-N may never lose their leadership because of hereditary politics, but the PTI cannot claim the same for itself.

She wrote that the PTI was formed with the idea that it would become an institution like Shaukat Khanum Hospital, as promised by its leader, but instead, the party relegated itself by revolving around a single personality, thus discrediting its image among members.

It is pertinent to mention here that Kasuri had parted ways with the PTI in 2013, but rejoined the party days later following a meeting with PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
