FAPUASA demands impartial committee to unearth the truth
ISLAMABAD: The fact-finding committee tasked to probe the illegal award of degree to son of President Islamic International University (IIUI) Dr Ahmed Yousaf Al-Darweish has submitted its report and has given him clean-chit in the case.
The President, who is a Saudi national, allegedly awarded a BS honors degree to his son Abdul Majeed Ahmed Alduraywish by using his influence in the institution.
The International Relations Degree, for the period of 2013 to 2017, was awarded to Abdul Majeed in spite of the fact that he barely attended classes or appeared in exams.
The employees of the IIUI greatly shocked over the fact finding report and demanded of the President of Pakistan, Chief Justice and other investigating agencies to form an independent probe committee in order to bring the fact to forth.
Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) had already raised question over the committee and demanded the President of Pakistan and Chancellor IIUI Mamnoon Hussain to constitute a fair, transparent and competent enquiry committee headed by not less than a sitting Judge of High court.
Dr Shehzad Ashraf Chaudhry, President FAPUASA Islamabad chapter, while reacting over the report told Pakistan Today that the formation of inquiry committee to investigate the illegal award of degree to son of President was consisted of Dr Darweish’s subordinates and even included the members who should have been otherwise summoned to explain their position as being the main players in the process of awarding the degree to Abdul Majeed in complete violation of rules of the university.
He said that they already expressed apprehension of such a one sided decision because how it is possible for subordinates to give decision against boss.
He demanded that impartial enquiry committee from outside IIUI and headed by at least a Judge of High Court would be quite in accordance with the principles of justice and would prevent further damage to the reputation of International Islamic University.
According to the notification issued by Mehmood Ur Rehman, Additional Director (Overseas Admission) IIUI, a copy of which is available with Pakistan Today, “Mr. Abdul Majeed SO Dr. Ahmed Yousaf a Saudi National Student of BS International Relations vide University Registration 1-FSS/BSIRF13. has been granted Ex-post Facto approval for deferment of studies for Spring semester 2014 i.e. to June 2014. It was alleged that the President IIU assumed charged in 2012, and at that time, his son was enrolled in a university in Australia. In 2013, he gained admission at IIU after attending another private university in Pakistan. The grades transcript issued by the Australian university in 2012 was also not the final transcript instead it was of an earlier semester which reveals that the student hadn’t finished his degree.
