KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday acquitted a cop murder accused after the prosecution remained unable to present concrete evidence against him.

The trial court had awarded life imprisonment to Abdul Wahid on the charges of killing a policeman and injuring two others in 2012. The court had also imposed a fine of Rs300,000 and ordered that he would undergo further imprisonment if fails to pay the fine amount.

The convict through his counsel challenged the punishment awarded by the trial court and submitted that the prosecution had failed to submit any credible pieces of evidence against him. The defence counsel argued that Wahid was arrested and implicated in a fabricated case in the past as well.

He said that the court did not follow due procedure while convicting Wahid. The SHC was requested to set aside the judgment of the trial court and to order the release of the convict.

After hearing the arguments from both sides, the SHC bench set aside the punishment and ruled that the convict should be released if not arrested in any other case.
