PESHAWAR: A PhD scholar of the Journalism Department of the University of Peshawar was not made assistant professor, it was learnt reliably.
Dr Amir Hamza Marwan completed his PhD from Sheffield University in the United Kingdom. He wrote a letter to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor and Higher Education Commission (HEC) chairman, demanding to promote him as an assistant professor after he was ignored in recent advertisements by the university, the letter said.
He said that the Sheffield University and many other UK based universities offered him teaching jobs but he preferred to come back to Pakistan to serve people here. “I waited long for my promotion and was offended to see that the post of assistant professor was even not advertised by the University of Peshawar in the recently published discriminatory advertisement, carried in the major national dailies on March 24, 2018,” read the letter.
“I believe in hard work and contribution in the academic field and this is what I have done since I have joined this university,” he said. The letter further read, “I met the then worthy Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Muhammad Rasul Jan, who ensured me the post of assistant professor.”
University Public Relation Officer Ali Imran said that Dr Amir Hamza was eligible but he was not aware of the reason why his name was dropped.
A professor of the university told Pakistan Today on the condition of anonymity that due to politics of the teachers, eligible persons don’t get the deserving seats.
