ISLAMABAD: The capital police failed to find officers that fulfilled the criteria set for vacancies in the city’s police stations, a local news outlet reported.

An IGP (Inspector General of Police) devised committee was to select station house officers, duty officers and additional station house officers. 150 inspectors and 400-sub-inspectors were available to choose from.
Three categories were devised by the committee in order to measure record and performances of the officers. Those with an honest reputation and commendable performance without any allegation of malpractice would be in category A. Category B was set for those who failed to meet performance metrics set for A or those who faced allegations but could not be proved guilty. The third category C was set for officers who had a reputation for dishonesty, or faced punishments over malpractices. Category C officers were barred from being considered for the three vacant posts.

Over a 100 interviews were conducted by the committee but not a single officer could meet category A criteria. As such, a total of 15 officers were selected for the posts last week from a list of B category officers devised by the committee.

“I am not satisfied with the committee’s proceedings and its selection of officials,”said  IGP Dr Sultan Azam Temuri.

He explained that the process is not currently complete as all officers have not yet been interviewed and that the appointments were temporary due to urgent security needs to prepare for Pakistan Day.
