ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Council for Research on Water Reservoirs (PCRWR) Chairman Dr Muhammad Ashraf said the growing population graph is having a negative impact on the environment, thus acting as a catalyst for climate change.
Expressing his views during a television programme, he said PCRWR was established to conduct research on water and it was constantly evolving policies for water conservation.
He said the melting of glaciers during the summer season was providing water for agriculture and other purposes.
Commenting on the significance of reservoirs, Dr Ashraf said dams could play a pivotal role in connection with enhancing the country’s water storage capacity during the rainy season.
The reservoirs could also be utilised to enhance agricultural production in Pakistan, he concluded.
