LAHORE: The lawyer for Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday requested a local court, hearing his defamation suit against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, to decide the matter at the earliest.

Shehbaz sued Imran Khan for Rs 10 billion in damages for accusing him of offering a bribe to stay silent on Panama Papers scandal against the Sharif family.

As the hearing resumed, the court ordered the lawyers of both parties to come prepared on April 21, so they can put forward the arguments.

Meanwhile, Shehbaz’s counsel alleged that Imran Khan is using delay tactics to prolong the case. As per the law, the court is bound to issue a verdict within 90 days, he argued.

In his defamation suit, the chief minister stated: “The defendant (Imran Khan) has levelled maliciously false, unfounded and baseless allegations against him.” The suit further said that Imran again levelled the same allegations during a TV program aired on April 21, 2017.

The counsel of Shehbaz further said that considering the seriousness of the allegations and with consistency, they were levelled, his client entitled to claim a compensation.

  1. I could only laugh at this ridiculous request. A murderer of 14 innocent people including a pregnant woman, has the gal to make such a request! Add to the list the corruption in almost every Provincial Deptt. His accomplice Rana Sana has gone into hiding and he is himself in London. He is a congenital liar too.
