KARACHI: A stress call by a Yemeni fishing boat on Saturday was immediately responded to by the Pakistan Navy.

16 Yemeni fishermen were on board a boat named Al Barq when they urged the Pakistan Navy to provide medical assistance. Medical staff on the Pakistan Navy Ship swiftly reached the fishing boat to deliver aid.

The Pakistan Navy was thanked for a quick response.

The four-year war in Yemen has killed more than 9,000 people in what the UN has described as the world “worst humanitarian crisis”.

At least 22 million people are in need of assistance in a country beset by violence, disease and famine, said Amnesty International on Friday. A further 1 million are suffering from suspected cases of Cholera.
UNICEF estimated in January that more than 400,000 children were suffering from acute malnutrition.

“Malnutrition and disease are rampant as basic services collapse,”  said UNICEF’s representative in Yemen in January.

“Those who survive are likely to carry the physical and psychological scars of conflict for the rest of their lives,” he added.
