GUJRANWALA: Authorities were unable to determine the cause of death of Gujranwala’s Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sohail Ahmed Tipu after his body was found at his home on Thursday.

While talking to media, the Gujranwala District Headquarters assistant medical superintendent (AMS) stated that when the medical team reached the DC House on the commissioner’s direction, it found Tipu’s body hanging from the fan.

“We informed the commissioner about legalities of post-mortem before shifting the body to the hospital,” he added.

The initial investigation report suggested suicide as the cause of the death but it is not confirmed yet. His body was found from with a ceiling fan at his residence. His hands, however, were tied from the back, which caught the attention of police.

As investigations into the case went underway, data from Tipu’s laptop and mobile was obtained. The DC house remained sealed as police continued to probe the late officer’s domestic help.

According to reports, a night before Tipu was found, he had spoken to his mother. Later in the day, his office staffers had requested her to check why he wasn’t picking their calls. Tipu’s mother went to check on him in his room to find him hanging from a ceiling fan.

A case was registered under Sections 302 (premeditated murder), 324 (attempted murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the deceased’s uncle Akram Tahir at the Civil Lines Police Station soon after the incident was reported.

Tipu was appointed as deputy commissioner in Gujranwala on December 11, 2017. He has three daughters and one son, who reside in Lahore.
