KARACHI: Amid tight security, the players of the Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) team, Peshawar Zalmi players arrived in Karachi late on Thursday night.
Peshawar Zalmi, captained by skipper Darren Sammy, secured its place in the final after beating Quetta Gladiators in a thrilling knockout match on March 20 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
Sammy along with Andre Fletcher, Chris Jordan, Liam Dawson and others arrived from Lahore, where they had played the second eliminator against Karachi Kings on Wednesday.
Speaking to media outlets, Sammy requested the people of Karachi to support to his team by wearing yellow, which is the team’s colour on the day of the match.
“All Zalmi, all Zalmi in the stadium,” Sammy remarked.
The captain praised his team’s spirit and unity and hoped that the team would defend its title.
“We will defend the title…we want to win in Karachi,” Sammy said.
The team’s owner Javed Afridi, while talking to the media upon his arrival, said that the PSL journey for Zalmi had been ‘amazing’.
“Darren’s leadership is very important for us; the team has won the hearts of Pakistanis. I don’t have words on how Lahore supported us and all credit goes to Sammy for it,” Afridi commented.
Peshawar Zalmi will play against Islamabad United in the final at the National Stadium in Karachi on Sunday, March 25. The match is expected to be a nail-biter considering that both the teams are winners of the previous two PSL’s.
