Sri Lanka endorses CPEC

KARACHI: Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena said that Sri Lanka was pleased over Pakistan’s economic progress and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

He said this on Wednesday during a meeting with Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair upon his arrival at VVIP lounge of Jinnah International Airport Karachi, said an official statement issued by the Governor House.

Earlier, Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair along with Sindh Chief Secretary Rizwan Memon, Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Allah Dino (AD) Khowaja received the Sri Lankan president on his arrival. Sri Lankan high commissioner was also present on the occasion.

The Sri Lankan president said that Sri Lankans respected Pakistan’s assistance and cooperation. Pakistan stood with Sri Lanka in difficult times, he added.

The governor said that Sri Lankan president’s arrival to participate in the Pakistan Day ceremony was a good sign and a manifestation of close bilateral ties.

He said that Sri Lanka was a close friend of Pakistan and added that both countries were enjoying good relations.

He said that the visit of Sri Lankan president would further strengthen the ties between the two countries.

He further said that Pakistan aspired to further promote investment, trade and business activities with Sri Lanka.
