LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday said the Pakistan Resolution was an important milestone in the struggle for a separate homeland for the Muslims of the Indian subcontinent. “It is also an occasion to pay homage to the martyrs and freedom fighters who played an active role in the struggle for Pakistan,” he said.
In his message issued here on the eve of Pakistan Day, the chief minister said that the nation needed the same unity and brotherhood as showed by the Muslims in 1940. He vowed to take the nation towards development and prosperity by employing the passion of March 23, 1940, and said that it was everyone’s duty to strive for the fulfillment of the Pakistan Movement’s objectives.
“It is also needed to promote mutual cooperation and affability in the society to sensitise the people about the importance of independence,” he said and added the government was making sincere and strenuous efforts to wriggle the nation out of the quagmire of problems.
“The sacrifices rendered by our forefathers demand that we achieve the objectives of independence,” said the chief minister.
Shehbaz said that Pakistan was moving towards its destination which was envisioned by Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal and added, “We will have to utilise all our energies to achieve the goal of a developed and prosperous Pakistan and the struggle will have to continue to make the country stronger by following the golden principles of unity, faith and discipline.”
“We should make a commitment today that no stone will be left unturned for achieving a respectable place for Pakistan in the comity of nations. Today, we will have to reiterate this commitment to transform the country according to the vision of our founding fathers and we will continue to work hard so that Pakistan is recognised as a prosperous and developed country across the globe,” he concluded.
