KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday issued a notice to National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) director general on contempt application filed against him for not issuing National Identity Card (NIC) to a woman despite the court’s directives.
A petitioner, Khadija, moved the application, requesting the court to initiate contempt proceedings against NADRA director general for flaying the court’s directives.
She reminded the court that it had directed NADRA to renew identity cards of her husband and hers in 2013; however, her ID is still not renewed while her husband died during the period.
Issuing notice to NADRA director general, the bench sought his reply by March 30.
Separately, Karachi chapter of Sindh United Party (SUP) staged a token hunger strike outside Karachi Press Club (KPC) against NADRA.
People belonging to different political parties participated in hunger strike which was led by SUP Chairman Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah, Zain Shah, Sindh National Party (SNP) Chairman Ameer Bhanbhuro, Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) leader Asif Baladi and Khalil Ansari.
The leaders alleged that NADRA is issuing National Identity Card (NIC) to the outsiders in the province. They said the NADRA chairman had directed the staff to complete registration process of NICs of ‘outsiders’ as soon as possible. They said that NADRA has formed mobile teams to register ‘outsiders’ in their homes.
