ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Sherry Rehman on Tuesday said that her nomination for the post of opposition leader was in compliance of Senate’s rules.
She said, “PPP submitted everything by the book and there is no question of us flouting rules. We received a letter on March 15 to show our support by March 22 and not on the last day. We submitted our majority by close of business. That’s how it is done.”
On Monday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) submitted a letter to Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani in which it said that Sherry Rehman’s nomination was in violation of the Senate’s rules and procedures.
Meanwhile, PTI leader Azam Swati on Tuesday claimed that PPP would withdraw its candidate against him in the upper house for the position of opposition leader.
He said that Senate chairman was from Balochistan, deputy chairman was from Sindh and the opposition leader would be from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
He further said that PPP would also support the PTI candidate in Senate as there was a dire need for unity in the upper house. Jamat-e-Islami (JI), Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), independent senators from Balochistan and FATA were with PTI, he added.
