Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah on Tuesday said the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) by making derogatory remarks and hurling baseless allegations at opponents were “defaming politics”.

Speaking to media representatives in Sukkur, Shah said the political manifesto of the two parties was to defame, insult and disrespect others.

Terming the PTI government’s ‘billion tree tsunami’ project in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) a “fraud with the masses”, he said that the Sindh government made a world record of planting trees. “The team of Guinness Book of World records came to Pakistan, verified and then awarded the record to us,” he added.

“Maybe Imran’s trees are planted in the skies instead of the earth and that is why the Guinness team didn’t notice the billion trees in KP,” Shah said.

Answering a question regarding Chaudhry Nisar’s comment on former premier Nawaz Sharif, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader said, “If you’ve spent even a single day with a leader, you should not speak this way about them.” And added that Nisar even served the country under Nawaz and there was a certain amount of respect that you need to give to others.

Training guns on PTI chief Imran Khan on the issue of Senate opposition seat, he said PTI’s claim over the opposition seat in Senate was undemocratic and the PPP was trying its best to ensure that the issue of the caretaker prime minister was taken up in the parliament.

“Instead of announcing candidates at public rallies, political leaders and parties need to send in their recommendations to me. The prime minister will also send in candidates to me. The caretaker PM will be decided before May 30,” Shah said.
