National development, prosperity core agendas of PML-N govt: Shehbaz

— CM says differently abled children not less than others with regard to abilities and talent

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said that national development and prosperity were the core agendas of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, and if the people while reposing their faith, voted for the party in the upcoming elections, the masses would be served more than ever before.

“All the people will have to work jointly to make Pakistan stronger and everyone should play their due role in national development,” he added.

During his meeting with Member National Assembly (MNA) Arifa Khalid, the chief minister said the PML-N government’s tenure was based on public service and exemplary steps were taken for the development of the nation.

“We have taken every step for national development while the opponents wasted their time in obstructing the journey. Niazi Sahib wasted his time in levelling allegations instead of serving the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP),” he said and added that the performance of those, who criticised development projects in Punjab, was zero in their own provinces.

He said that “politics of U-turns, sit-ins, and falsehood were the identity of Imran Khan” and those who were devoid of the passion of public service could not tolerate public welfare in Punjab.

The chief minister also said that the people would hold the elements involved in politics of negativity accountable in the elections with the power of their votes.

“We, on the other hand, will go to the court of the people in the upcoming elections with records of our performance,” said Shehbaz.

Different development schemes and political matters were also discussed in detail during the meeting.

Separately, Chief Minister Shehbaz said the children suffering from Down syndrome required special attention of the society to live a healthy and productive life.

In his message issued on the “World Down Syndrome Day”, the chief minister said the purpose of observing the day was to raise necessary societal awareness about the treatment and precautionary measures of the condition.

“There is no doubt that differently abled children are not less than others with regard to abilities and talent,” he said and observed that an effective system was required for the care and treatment of children with special needs.

He also said that care, rehabilitation and education of such children were the responsibility of the state and the Punjab government had taken different measures to help rehabilitate such children. In this regard, he said, the standards of education and training facilities had been improved in special education institutions.

“The children with Down syndrome can be made healthy citizens of the society through proper education and training. Today, we should also reiterate this commitment that such children with special needs will be provided with the necessary care and treatment so that they can live a normal life,” concluded CM Shehbaz.
