PPP’s Ayaz Soomro passes away at 59

NEW YORK: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and lawmaker Muhammad Ayaz Soomro passed away at a Manhattan hospital early Tuesday morning.

According to the details, Soomro was a heart patient and was being treated at a hospital in Manhattan, New York. He was born on December 31, 1958 ,and died at the age of 59 on March 20, 2018.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of MNA Soomro.

In his condolence message, the PPP chairman eulogised the “services and sacrifices of Soomro for the party and his lifelong commitment and loyalty to the cause”.

“Mohammad Ayaz Soomro — a great Bhuttos’ jiyala, janisar of Shaheed Muhtarma Benazir Bhutto — is no more,” said fellow party member Agha Siraj Durrani.

“He participated in all the activities against dictators, went to jail during the Movement for the Restoration of Democracy, he was one of the best law ministers and one of the best district presidents in Larkana division,” he added.

Similarly, Senator Sehar Kamran expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of Ayaz Soomro.

She sympathised deeply with the deceased’s family and offered her heartfelt condolences. She stated that his contributions, dedication and loyalty to the party and democracy would always be remembered.

Muhammad Ayaz Soomro was elected as MNA from NA-204 (Larkana) in 2013 general election. Earlier, he was elected as  MPA from PS-37  Larkana in 2002 and also served as the Sindh law minister during Qaim Ali Shah’s tenure as the chief minister.

Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) President Asif Ali Zardari also expressed profound grief and sorrow over the death of Ayaz Soomro.

While paying a rich tribute to the late lawmaker, he said that Ayaz Soomro started his political career at a very young age as a political activist and was a member of the student organisation of the party. He was a loyal follower of Benazir Bhutto and was incarcerated during General Zia-ul-Haq’s dictatorship but he continued his struggle for democracy, he added.

The PPPP president said that the entire party was grieved over the death of a valiant worker of the party. He prayed to Allah to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and strength and fortitude to the bereaved family to bear the loss with equanimity.

SHC condoles Ayaz Soomro’s demise:

Sindh High Court (SHC) Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh discharged the board to condole the demise of former Larkana District Bar president and Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) MNA Ayaz Soomro.

Hearing the news of Soomro’s demise, the SHC chief justice discharged the board; however, the hearings of important cases were conducted in the judges’ chambers.

Soomro was a lawyer by profession and remained a member of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) from Larkana and served as the president of Larkana District Bar for ten years.
