GUJRANWALA: Police on Friday arrested two suspects in Gujranwala over allegations of raping minor girls and filming videos for child pornography.

According to the media reports, the suspects – Rashid and Tariq Shah – raped and filmed more than six minor girls in the area.

Police officials said that Tariq and Rashid operated a video store in the area where they committed the heinous act during the recent past. The accused used to rape and film underage girls and later sell their videos in the market, the reports stated.

The victims’ families have refused to record their statements and come out in public against the suspects, and have no registered a case against them, the police added

However, the police have registered a case against the suspects and launched an investigation to unearth further information.

On Thursday, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) handed life imprisonment to a man after finding him guilty in Kasur child abuse case. Haseem Amir was sentenced to life imprisonment by ATC Judge Chaudhry Muhammad Ilyas in one of the 29 cases that were registered against him since 2015.

The ATC had earlier acquitted 12 men in one of the 29 cases filed in the Kasur scandal that came to the fore in 2015.

Earlier in March, Kasur DPO Zahid Nawaz Marwat said that after the brutal rape and murder incident of Kasur’s minor Zainab, another 12 cases of rape and sodomy were reported in the district. “While all those involved in these cases of heinous nature were arrested, we should unite to eradicate this evil from the society,” he added.
