IHC issues notices to senior officials in contempt case

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday issued notices to the secretaries of interior affairs, cabinet, and law and justice and Inspector General of Islamabad Police in contempt of court proceeding in connection with the bulletproof car presently in the use of former chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the IHC issued the notice in the petition filed by Advocate Riaz Hanif Rahi against the provision of the government maintained the bulletproof car to Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry.

The petitioner, who appeared in person before the court, pleaded that on March 10 the IHC dismissed a plea for retaining of the bulletproof car by the former CJP, declaring a retired Supreme Court judge could only avail the facilities that were enumerated in the Supreme Court Judges Leave, Pension and Privileges Order, 1997.

The case was adjourned till April 25.
