KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday submitted a resolution in the Sindh Assembly seeking resignation of Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah after allegations of corruption were levelled against him.

The resolution was submitted by PTI lawmaker Khurrum Sher Zaman after the auditor general’s report for 2016-17 revealed misappropriations worth billions in the affairs related to the provincial government.

Speaking to the media, Zaman claimed that the financial irregularities were the highest form of corruption caused by the Sindh government, adding that multiple departments, including the education sector, were involved in the corrupt practices.

The PTI leader asked Shah to immediately resign from his position. He also urged the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to launch an investigation against the Sindh government in the light of the auditor general’s report.

In February, it was reported that the residents of Sindh were compelled to take substandard life-saving drugs as over Rs1.6 billion-worth embezzlement had been detected in the purchase of medicines by the government-run hospitals of the province without going through proper laboratory drug test and inspection.
