K-Electric launches first-ever girls’ football league

 

KARACHI: K-Electric is set to launch KE Girls’ Football League at the KPT Sports Complex in Karachi, making this the first ever corporate-backed women’s football league.

This initiative is aimed at encouraging participation of women in sports and comes after the recent launch of the first ever boxing tournament for women which received a massive response.

The opening ceremony will be held on March 16 and would kick off with an exhibition match dedicated to late Shahlyla Baloch, the young forward who represented Pakistan’s national football team but unfortunately passed away in a tragic road accident.

The tournament is being held in collaboration with the Naseem Hameed Football Academy and the event comprises of eight teams from different areas of Karachi. The participating teams include Naseem Hameed Football Academy, Aga Khan Gymkhana, Young Muslim Women Football Club, Marta Women Football Club, Karachi Kickers Football Academy, Mohsin Gilani Football Academy, Elite Sports Academy and the Social Bond.

K-Electric spokesperson said, “More than 128 young female footballers are competing for the title which is a massive achievement for women in sports.”
