Delimitation of constituencies: ECP raises eyebrows over NA body’s mandate

While raising objections on the mandate of committee that was established in connection with the delimitation of constituencies, the ECP termed it interference in its constitutional powers.
The meeting of the special committee for delimitation of constituencies was held under the chairmanship of its convener Daniyal Aziz at the Parliament House.
During the meeting, ECP additional secretary presented the written orders of commission.
In written orders, it was stated that delimitation of constituencies was the mandate of ECP and added that a proper procedure has been given on making objections on delimitation process of constituencies.
On this, Daniyal Aziz said that committee fully honoured the mandate of ECP and was not interfering in its matters. He further stated that committee would review the objections of parliamentarians and then present it in the parliament.
On the occasion, committee member Dr Arif Alvi stated that committee could present its recommendations before ECP. Moreover, he stated that NA parliamentary committee members held meeting with chief election commissioner and gave him as many as 300 recommendations.
