KARACHI: Shortage of fresh milk looms large over the metropolitan city as retailers have stopped buying the commodity from the wholesale market and selling to consumers.

Dairy vendors stopped purchasing milk from wholesale market on Wednesday after Karachi administration and milk sellers failed to settle the price issue. The city faces a shortage of fresh milk and only a few shops are selling milk but at high prices.

According to an estimate, the city’s daily fresh milk demand of 4.5 million liters presently faces a short supply of at least 1 million liters, which is feared to increase.

All Karachi Milk Retailers Association (AKMRA) says that they cannot sell milk at the official price Rs. 85 per liter when we buy it at higher prices. They said that the administration instead of taking action against wholesaler is raiding shops of retailers.
