DUBAI: Two franchises of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators, have officially qualified to play the Pakistan leg of the tournament that starts on March 20 with the first eliminator in Lahore.
Islamabad United reached the top of the points table after winning against Multan Sultans by 33 runs in the Tuesday’s encounter. Quetta Gladiators stand second with two matches to go for the top two teams.
The other two spots for the play-offs remain undecided between Karachi Kings, Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi. If Zalmi loses even one of their two games left, Sultans will qualify for the eliminators.
While Shane Watson is still undecided and awaits family permission to participate in the Pakistan leg, other players in the Gladiators line-up including Mahmudullah, Jason Roy, Rilee Rossouw, Carlos Brathwaite, and Rashid Khan have initially agreed to visit Lahore and Karachi for the eliminators and final, if Gladiators qualify. Playing his last cricket league before retirement, Kevin Pietersen is the only player who has refused to visit Pakistan.
Responding to the woes, the Quetta Gladiators captain Sarfraz had said that the franchise had replacement players who are willing to come to Pakistan like last year.
A number of overseas players have agreed to join Pakistan leg of PSL, including Luke Ronchi, Liam Dawson, JP Duminy, Darren Sammy, Shane Watson, Andre Fletcher, Carlos Brathwaite, Imran Tahir, Luke Ronchi, Colin Ingram, Colin Munro, Darren Bravo, Sam Billings, Tamim Iqbal and David Wiese.
