An Instagram quotation once read, “Invest in your hair. It is the crown you never take off.” And it is suprising how true this statement is as good and healthy hair can literally change the way you look. Maintaining good hair is not only limited to using good shampoo and conditioner or oiling it every once in a while, it is also essential to consume foods which will help prevent hair loss and promote hair growth because at the end of the day, “You are what you eat.”

Here are a list of foods which contribute to healthy hair:

1. Spinach – One of the main reasons for hair fall is iron deficiency. Apart from being rich in iron, spinach is also full of Vitamin A, C and calcium. Including spinach in your diet slows down the hair fall process.

2. Salmon – Hair is essentially protein fiber, which means the inclusion of protein in the diet is absolutely essential for the growth of new hair. Protein is required to produce keratin, an important component of hair. Salmon is an excellent source of protein.

3. Sweet potatoes – For shine and moisture, the scalp needs to produce sebum, and for the production of sebum we need to consume foods that are rich in Vitamin A. Sweet potatoes are loaded with vitamin A and are hence a good source of this vitamin.

4. Almonds – Vitamin E is also essential for increasing hair growth, repairing tissues and reducing inflammation. Consuming a handful of almonds regularly will ensure that the body and hair receive the right amount of Vitamin E resulting in healthy hair.

5. Oats – Omega-6 fatty acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids are the secret behind thick and voluminous hair. Oats are rich in omega-6 fatty acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids which means that their consumption will increase hair growth and will give thick and voluminous hair.

6. Walnuts – Walnuts contain biotin, Vitamin B, E and magnesium, which is required to strengthen your hair cuticles and help nourish the scalp. Eating walnuts also help to repair the hair from sun exposure.

7. Cinnamon – At times, your diet maybe good but doesn’t mean that your hair follicles are getting enough nutrients, which means less hair growth. However, including cinnamon will ensure that your scalp gets enough nutrients. Cinnamon improves circulation in your scalp.
