LAHORE: An FIR [First Information Report] was filed on Monday against a man suspected of throwing a shoe at Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supreme leader Nawaz Sharif and his accomplices during an event at the Jamia Naemia seminary.
A former Jamia Naemia student Talha Munawwar, reportedly a member of the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYR), on Sunday hurled a shoe at Nawaz Sharif, while the former premier was about to address the ceremony.
As Nawaz reached the rostrum to address the participants, an audience member threw a shoe which hit the former premier on his chest. The assailant then climbed onto the stage and shouted a slogan while standing in front of Nawaz.
Munawwar was later shifted to Services Hospital owing to injuries from being beaten up by the seminary staff and students after the incident.
Moreover, police also arrested two other suspicious persons from the seminary.
The prime suspect and his two accomplices were booked on Monday under Section 16 (Dissemination of rumours) of the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance and Section 355 (Assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour a person, otherwise than on grave provocation) of the Pakistan Penal Code, read with Section 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation).
The attack on Nawaz was denounced by major political parties and leaders across Pakistan.
