KARACHI: Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) held its 21st convocation here on Sunday where more than 1000 degrees were conferred on the students of BS and MS programmes.
According to a statement issued, two of the faculty members were conferred PhD degrees, while the degree of Doctorate (Honourary) was awarded to renowned philanthropist Sardar Yasin Malik.
Position holders were conferred gold, silver and bronze medals for securing highest marks in their respective disciplines.
Lieutenant General (retd) Moinuddin Haider was the chief guest on the occasion. Chancellor of SSUET, Aligarh Muslim University Old Boy’s Association General Secretary Arshad Khan and a large number of educationists, scholars, faculty members and students attended the convocation.
Moinuddin Haider congratulated the students for receiving the degrees and their teachers and parents while saying that the world is changing rapidly and in near future robots may replace human service as in many countries robots are doing surgeries.
He urged the students to update their knowledge and skills according to the contemporary demands.
He said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor will bring economic prosperity in the region. He said that it has already starting bringing investment in Pakistan. They are making a network of roads and industrial zone will be established in the next phase, he said.
Vice Chancellor Dr Afzal Haq, Registrar Sarfraz Ali and Arshad Khan also spoke.
