QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister (CM) Abdul Quddus Bizenjo denied on Friday that he had entrusted Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari to nominate Senate chairman, adding that the opposition’s candidate for Senate chairman will be nominated after a mutual consensus on the issue.
Speaking to a private news channel, CM Bizenjo appreciated the PPP leader’s stand for the smaller provinces of the country but went on to assert that if PPP did not agree to select an independent senator of Balochistan for Senate Chairman, his party will then consult Imran Khan.
“Though there are some hurdles but we are expecting a decision which will be better for Balochistan,” he said, “Imran Khan has made a good decision.”
The chief minister said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has not yet contacted his group, he can speak with the government on the Senate chairmanship, however, he immediately added that he stands with PPP and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).
PTI has already pledged support to Balochistan CM for the position of chairman of Senate.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Saturday said that his party would completely support the panel selected by the Balochistan chief minister for the position of Senate chairman.
Earlier, the PTI chief while addressing a joint press conference with Bizenjo said that it would be a great development for Balochistan if a Senate chairman was selected from the province for the first time in Pakistan’s political history.
“The population of Balochistan is more aware of their rights and deprivations now, and it will be a great achievement for the province if the new Senate chairman is selected from here,” Khan said.
Talking to reporters on the occasion, Bizenjo said that PTI took the first step to support a candidate from Balochistan and appreciated them for making this move.
He said, “Imran Khan and his party gets all the credit for being the first one to lend us support.” He also appreciated PPP for showing interest in selecting a chairman from Balochistan.
Later, Bizenjo said that the ideal nominations for the position will be Senators Anwaarul Haq Kakar and Sadiq Sanjrani.
