Man who announced head money for Rao Anwar’s murder seeks bail

KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Saturday ordered the prosecutor to submit his response on bail plea of a man who offered Rs five million as head money for the murder of suspended SSP Malir Rao Anwar.

Saleem Jaffery who was arrested in Rawalpindi after he had announced the reward for killing Rao Anwar, was brought to Karachi to be presented before the court.

The investigation officer told the court that he has obtained the video statement of Jaffery and need time for the further investigation on the accused person.

The ATC judge, however, remarked that he will listen to the arguments of both defence and prosecution on Saturday.

A case was registered against Jaffery at Sachal police station after his video statement went viral on social media.

Rao Anwar, main accused in the extrajudicial killing of Waziristan native Naqeebullah, has gone into hiding as police and intelligence agencies are finding it hard to arrest him.

Meanwhile, Supreme Court (SC) has also declared suspended SSP absconder for not appearing before the court.

The 27-year-old Naqeebullah Mehsud was killed by encounter specialist team of Rao Anwar on January 13 in Karachi.
