–Interior minister in tweet says ‘politicisation of judiciary will be our collective loss’

LAHORE: Federal Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Saturday responded to remarks of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar against the performance of the Punjab government, saying it is for the people of Punjab to judge the government’s performance in the upcoming general election.

“How can you make such statements just before general elections,” the interior minister said in a tweet, addressing the CJP. “Is judiciary a political party?”

The federal minister further said that Imran Khan and Asif Zardari can make such statements. “Politicisation of judiciary will be our collective loss,” Iqbal stated.

On Saturday, during the hearing of the case regarding setting up of a water treatment plant, the chief justice remarked that the Punjab government has done nothing in the province in the last 10 years.

The CJP further criticised the provincial government for not taking any concrete steps against sewage being drained in River Ravi and Chenab.

The chief justice also took notice of pictures of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on advertisement campaigns by the government and called this policy another failure.

  1. Ahsan Iqbal don’t insult the Judiciary. They are respectable people with dignity and self-esteem unlike political parties.
