Senate adopts two reports of standing committee, 11 others presented before House

ISLAMABAD: The Senate on Friday adopted two reports of a standing committee while 11 reports of other committees were presented in the House.

Those adopted reports were of Special Committee on China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) regarding visits of Gwadar in May 2017 and that of China from November 29 to December 3, 2017. On behalf of the Chairman Standing Committee on Privatization and Statistics, committee member Sherry Rehman presented a special report of the committee for the period from August 2017 to February 2018.

On behalf of the Chairman Standing Committee on Finance, Senator Mohsin Leghari presented special reports of the committee for the period from May 2015 to March 2018 and on the matters related to the corruption cases of Federal Board of Revenue and agriculture financing and appointments made by the Zari Taraqiati Bank Ltd.

Special Committee on the Performance of Convener Muzaffar Shah presented the final report regarding the performance of the national airline.

Standing Committee on Law and Justice Chairman Javed Abbassi presented the report on the matter as to whether an amendment of the penalty of death by hanging publicly is required or not in view of rule 354 of the Prisons Rules, 1978.  He also presented reports regarding the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2017, (Amendment of Article 255) and the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2016 (substitution of Article 251).

Select Committee on Islamabad Restriction on Employment of Children Bill, 2017, Chairman Mir Kabeer Shahi presented the report on the bill to prohibit the employment of children and to restrict the employment of adolescents in certain occupations and processes.

Standing Committee on Planning Senator Chairman Tahir Mashhadi presented the report on a starred question regarding the provision of clean drinking water for Gwadar and CPEC projects.

Standing Committee on National Food Security and Research Chairman Muzaffar Shah presented the report on a Calling Attention Notice regarding the price of sugarcane and the question of subsidy between the federal and provincial governments.

A report on the National Disaster Management Bill, 2017, was withdrawn while a member of the Committee on Climate Change presented the report on National Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, 2017, in the House.

The House did not take up two Calling Attention Notices appearing on the agenda.
