Brendon McCullum hints at giving up Lahore Qalandars’ captaincy

DUBAI: After losing six games in a row during Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2018, Lahore Qalandars’ star player Brendon McCullum has offered to give up the captaincy of the side.

He hinted at giving up as captain by saying, “Ultimately as captain you’re responsible for the performances. I feel like I’ve done the same things that I do in any team that I’ve led, but unfortunately, that hasn’t resonated.”

McCullum gave an impression that the team could yield better results by replacing the captain. “(We have to ask) whether it’s better offloading it to someone else and seeing if we can get better results … we’ve got some questions to ask tonight and that’s all the way through,” he said.

Lahore Qalandars suffered a six-wicket defeat against Islamabad United yesterday after a thrilling performance of 77 runs by Luke Ronchi. Responding to whether Qalandars should have had more runs on the board, McCullum said, “No, not really. We bowled very poorly.”

He cleared, “What we did after that (Devich’s performance), I was really disappointed with, to be honest. It’s not what we’re about and I don’t mind losing, but you expect to be hard to beat.”

Qalandars are on the bottom of the points table after six straight defeats. With just four games to go before the PSL eliminators in Lahore, the McCullum-led team has bleak chances of making it to the play-offs.
