LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Thursday sealed a milk shop and disposed-off 280 litres of adulterated milk during a surprise visit to the Zaman Milk Unit in the Kacha Jail Road area.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of vigilance director and deputy director (operations) along with a food dairy team.

According to the details, the team took into custody around 280 litres of the substandard milk and 15 kg of yoghurt which was spilt on the spot due to the low lactometer reading (LR) and presence of water and chemical during the tests that were carried out on the spot. Moreover, blue plastic drums were being used to store milk.

In other activities, food safety teams carried out an operation against unhealthy eateries and penalised several food business operators by issuing heavy fine tickets for not complying with the PFA’s instructions. Food safety teams discarded a number of expired and poor quality food products by taking them into possession from different food points across the city. The PFA also served improvement and warning notices to dozens of food points during the operation.

PFA officials say that the authority was fully committed to ensuring hygienic food in Punjab as per the “Healthy Punjab” mission under its slogan “From Farm to Fork”. They also said the crackdown would continue till the elimination of adulterates and the supply of healthy food in the province was ensured.
