CJP orders FIA to present investigation report on fake drugs case

LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday asked the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general to present a probe report on the sexual performance enhancement drugs case.

This was ordered by the CJP as he was hearing a complaint lodged by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) with the Supreme Court Human Rights Cell against Everest Pharmaceuticals for manufacturing fake drugs.

Hearing the case against fake drugs, Chief Justice Nisar said that the court cannot let anyone influence the case.

A CJP-led three-member bench had summoned the Punjab Inspector General of Police and the Bahawalpur Regional Police Officer after allegations that the latter may be protecting people involved in the crime. IG Punjab told the court that the allegation was baseless.

“On our orders, an officer raided a factory; the next day, NAB issued him a notice,” the CJP said, adding, “It seems that these people are influential.”

The CJP asked the FIA DG to complete investigation and submit a report to the court.

After the previous hearing of the case on Tuesday, the owner of the pharmaceutical company manufacturing the fake drugs was arrested from the premises of SC on the CJP’s order.

As the hearing resumed, Justice Nisar ordered authorities to arrest the pharmaceutical company owner, Usman from the court.

The court also ordered the suspension of Bahawalpur RPO but later withdrew the orders and allowed the RPO to serve until March 8.

A complaint has been launched against the pharmaceutical company in human rights cell of Supreme Court.
