ANF seizes 1.217 tons of narcotics worth Rs 1.3 billion in 14 strikes

QUETTA: Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) seized 1.217 tons of narcotics valued at Rs 1.3 billion internationally, arrested 15 persons involved in drug trafficking and impounded 5 vehicles during 14 counter-narcotics strikes across the country. The seized drugs comprised of 1.073 tons of hashish, 6.2 kg of opium, 2.2 kg of amphetamine, 1 kg of heroin and 82 kg psychotropic tablets.

Quetta ANF, while carrying out an intelligence based operation (IBO) at general area of Killi Shakoor Khan, Tehsil Gulistan, District Qilla Abdullah, seized 237 kg of hashish. The drug was stocked at an isolated site which was to be handed over to another narcotic gang, as per the initial reports. In another operation, Quetta ANF intercepted a Toyota pick-up without a registration number plate near Azad Landhi, RCD Road, Tehsil Dalbandin, District Chaghi and recovered 5 kg of hashish. Two persons on board identified as Ghulam Muhammad and Shah Noor, both residents of Washuk, were arrested on the spot. In the third operation Quetta ANF, on pursuance of information, carried out an operation at District Qilla Abdullah and seized 850 kg of hashish. According to the details, the drug was stocked at an isolated site situated at general area of Kili Daman, Tehsil Gulistan. The accused escaped from the spot by taking advantage of the darkness.

Rawalpindi ANF recovered 900 grams of heroin from a parcel being sent to Australia through a private courier service company based in Islamabad. Heroin was concealed in a parcel of books. In another operation, Rawalpindi ANF arrested a foreign bound passenger identified as Asad Zaman, resident of Upper Dir, at Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad while he was leaving for Saudi Arabia through flight number WY-346 and recovered 1.42 kg of amphetamine concealed in his travelling bag. In a third operation, Rawalpindi ANF intercepted a Suzuki Bolan near China Chowk, Haji Shah Road, Attock and recovered 600 grams of hashish from personal possession of the accused identified as Ashfaq Hussain, a resident of Attock.

Lahore ANF intercepted a motorcycle near Nestle Milk Centre, Basti Pull Wala, Shekhani Seetpur Khangrah, Doma Road, Muzaffargarh and recovered 1 kg of opium and 6 kg of hashish from personal possession of the two accused named Saqlain Abbas and Javed Hussain, both residents of Muzafargarh. In another operation, Lahore ANF stopped a suspected Honda Civic Car near Sahianwala Motorway Toll Plaza, Faisalabad and recovered 4.8 kg of opium and 4.8 kg of hashish concealed in secret cavities of the car. Three persons on board identified as Malang Khan and Hazrat Zeb, both residents of Upper Dir, and their lady accomplice Shabana Bibi, a resident of Rawalpindi. In the third operation, ANF Lahore intercepted a motorcycle near Green Town Chowk, Millat Road, Faisalabad and recovered 450 grams of opium from personal possession of the accused identified as Muhammad Zubair, a resident of Faisalabad. In the fourth operation, Lahore ANF conducted a raid at Main GT Road, Lahore and recovered 150 grams of heroin by arresting a local drug peddler named Ghulam Abbas. In the fifth operation, Lahore ANF apprehended a local drug peddler named Rizwan Ali, a resident of Gujranwala, near Shell Petrol Pump, Begowal Adda, Wazirabad Road, Sialkot and recovered 750 grams of hashish from his personal possession.

Peshawar ANF, in collaboration with ASF, arrested a foreign bound passenger identified as Mahmood Wahab, a resident of Hangu, at Peshawar Airport and recovered 860 grams of amphetamine concealed in his trolley bag. The accused intended to leave for Bahrain through flight number GF-785.

Karachi ANF, while acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid near Educational Institute at Machi Miyan Market, Kharadar, Karachi and recovered 19.2 kg of hashish from personal possession of the accused, identified as Sardar Ali, a resident of Peshawar. In addition, Karachi ANF, in pursuance of information, raided an office of a clearing agency located in the area of Kharadar, Karachi and seized 63.6 kg of Pronix tablets and 8.5 kg Xanax tablets. In a follow-up operation, Karachi ANF raided a site at Sector 11-G, Godhra Muslim Dispensary, Abbasi Nagar, New Karachi and arrested an absconder named Muhammad Arif, a resident of Karachi, along with the recovery of 10.6 kg of Xanax tablets.

All cases were registered at the respective ANF police stations under CNS Act 1997 and further investigations were started.
