ISLAMABAD: Federal Ombudsperson for Protection against Harassment at Workplace Kashmala Tariq said that positive change in the attitudes towards women at workplace and the establishment of the Ombudsperson’s office was a good starting point for the empowerment of women.
Former legislator said that the purpose of establishment of Ombudsperson Secretariat for Protection against Harassment at Workplace delivered a special message of deterrence to employees that if they did something wrong, they could be expelled from service.
She said that harassment of any kind at workplace was not acceptable either from a male or a female. Soon an awareness campaign would be started to stop victimisation, she added.
Kashmala said that the basic reason for such attitudes was illiteracy, adding that there was a dire need to educate and train sons and daughters.
Replying to a question, she said that up till now 510 cases had been resolved by the Ombudsperson’s office and only five were pending, adding that the victims of harassment from the private sector could also contact Ombudsperson Secretariat for justice.
