KASUR: Kasur DPO Zahid Nawaz Marwat on Tuesday said that after the brutal rape and murder incident of Kasur’s minor Zainab, another 12 cases of rape and sodomy were reported in the district.
“While all those involved in these cases of heinous nature were arrested, we should unite to eradicate this evil from the society,” he added.
Speaking at a joint meeting with traders, lawyers and members of civil society, he also told that an incident of sexual harassment surfaced in the Bhatta Sohn Din area, where a 15-year-old boy tried to sexually harass a minor girl. The DPO further disclosed that the girl was the cousin of the accused, Ghulam Abbas, who lured the minor to ride a motorbike with him.
The incident was recorded in the cameras installed in the area, following which the B Division SHO Wahid Arif arrested the accused by tracing him from the registration plate of the motorbike. The accused later confessed to his crime as well, he added.
The DPO also awarded cash prizes and certificates to SHO Wahid Arif and other officials to appreciate their performance.
In the meeting, DPO Zahid appealed to the people to cooperate with the police for making Kasur a peaceful city. He said the duty of the police was to detect a crime and it had arrested the accused in all 12 cases of rape and sodomy, but the crime, he said, should be eliminated from its roots.
He also hinted to launch a mass awareness campaign in the district for the safety of the children.
