LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) on Monday submitted an adjournment motion in the Punjab Assembly against Dr Asif Bashir, who holds the post of a neurosurgeon at the Lahore General Hospital (LGH) in violation of the Pakistan Dental and Medical Council’s (PDMC) recommendations.

PTI MPA Mohammad Shoaib Siddiquee pointed out that due to the lack of experience and the required number of research papers, the PMDC had said that Dr Asif was not eligible to hold the post, but due to the negligence of the health department, the said doctor was still holding the designation and had refused to vacate it.

In the adjournment motion, it was demanded that the concerned authorities should immediately take notice of the situation and take action in this regard.

It was further demanded that keeping in view the distress of the doctors’ community and as per the recommendations of the PDMC, Dr Asif Bashir may immediately be stopped from working as a neurosurgeon in the LGH and some other eligible doctor be given a chance.

Siddiquee further said that Dr Asif was being sheltered by his brother-in-law, who was a secretary in the Punjab government.

“An application was also filed against him by Dr Aamir Dawood of Multan’s Nishtar Hospital and it clearly reflects the actual situation. This is why he should immediately leave the post,” he added.

Siddiquee also said the health department had become a “white elephant” which had nothing to do with the welfare of the common man, and so, the Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif “should not make tall claims of revolutionising the healthcare sector and should realise the truths.”
