ISLAMABAD: Mirza Muhammad Afridi, who was elected as an independent senator from the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA), joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday.

Afridi made the announcement after having a meeting with ousted prime minister and PML-N ex-president Nawaz Sharif.

In Senate elections held on Saturday, the PML-N emerged as the largest party in the Upper House of Parliament after winning 15 seats, as per unofficial and unverified results.

PML-N now holds 33 seats out of 104-member Senate.

The candidature of the four winners from FATA was decided after long consultations and jirgas. There were 24 candidates for four seats of Senate from FATA.
